The Scottish League Cup was played for the 35th time in 1980/81 . The Scottish League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 13, 1980 and ended with the final on December 6, 1980 in Dens Park in Dundee . The cup competition was officially held as Bell’s Scottish League Cup . Dundee United was able to successfully defend its title from last year with a 3-0 final victory over city rivals FC Dundee in the Dundee Derby .
