The Scottish League Cup was played for the 16th time in 1961/62 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 12, 1961 and ended with the repeat final on December 18, 1961 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . As the defending champion, the Glasgow Rangers started the competition which had prevailed against FC Kilmarnock in the previous year's final . In this year's final, met Rangers at Heart of Midlothian . At that time, both teams were record winners in this competition with FC East Fife with three successes. The Rangers reached the League Cup final for the sixth time after 1947 , 1949 , 1952 , 1958 and 1961 . The Hearts reached the final for the fourth time after 1955 , 1959 and 1960 . The Rangers won after a 1-1, the replay final 3-1 and for the fourth time the title. In the same season , the Rangers were runner-up behind FC Dundee in the league. The Hearts were sixth in the table. In addition to the League Cup, the Rangers also won the Scottish Cup in the final against FC St. Mirren .
