The Scottish League Cup was played for the 38th time in 1983/84 . The Scottish League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 13, 1983 and ended with the final on March 25, 1984 in Glasgow's Hampden Park . Officially, the cup competition was held as the Skols Scottish League Cup . Celtic Glasgow , who won the final against Rangers last year , started as defending champions . With a 3-2 victory in the second Old Firm derby in a row, the Rangers were able to take revenge for the final defeat a year earlier. It was the 12th title for the Rangers since the first league cup win in 1947 .
