Brian John McClair (born December 8, 1963 in Bellshill ) is a Scottish football player and football coach.

Career

Player career

McClair began his career at Aston Villa , where he was never used. In 1981 he moved to Motherwell FC in the Scottish Premier League. After forty games in Motherwell , he moved to Celtic Glasgow for the equivalent of around € 150,000 . During his time in Glasgow , the striker was Scottish Footballer of the Year 1987. After this individual success, he moved to Manchester United for a transfer fee of around € 1.2 million. McClair was with the Red Devils four times English champions, twice English cup winners, once English League Cup winner and winner of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. Internationally, the Scot played thirty times for his home country . He scored two goals for the Scots. The striker was also a member of the Scottish selection for the 1992 European Football Championship in Sweden . McClair was featured three times and scored against the CIS , but Scotland were eliminated in the group stage. After his career at ManU, he returned in 1998 for eleven games to his home club Motherwell FC.

Coaching career

From December 1998 until the end of the 1998/1999 season he was assistant coach at Blackburn Rovers. Since the beginning of the 2006/2007 season he has been director of the Manchester United Youth Academy .
