The main Scottish soccer cup competition, which was directed by the Scottish Football Association, began on December 8, 1984 and ended with the final on May 18, 1985 in Hampden Park in Glasgow. As defending champions, Aberdeen FC started the competition that had prevailed against Celtic Glasgow in the final last year . In the final of this year's cup, Celtic Glasgow and Dundee United faced each other. The Celtic FC won the final by a 2: 1 victory, and won for the 27th time in club history the Scottish Cup since the first success in 1892 . United lost the Scottish League Cup final against Glasgow Rangers that same year . By winning the Cup, Celtic took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup the following year , and was eliminated there against the eventual finalist Atlético Madrid from Spain.
