The Scottish FA Cup was played for the 98th time in 1982/83 . The most important Scottish soccer cup competition, which was directed by the Scottish Football Association, began on December 11, 1982 and ended with the final on May 21, 1983 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . As the defending champion, FC Aberdeen started the competition, which had prevailed in the final of the previous year against the Glasgow Rangers and had become cup winners for the first time since 1970 . In the final of this year's cup, the two clubs from Aberdeen and Glasgow faced each other again. For the Dons it was the second consecutive final and the tenth since 1937 . The Rangers also reached the second final in a row and the 37th overall. Aberdeen FC won the final 1-0 after extra time. For Aberdeen it was the fourth cup win overall after 1947 , 1970 and 1982 . In the final table of the Scottish Championship , the two finalists reached places four and five. Aberdeen took part in the European Cup Winners' Cup with the Rangers the following season . The Dons reached the semi-finals, in which the team failed at FC Porto . The Rangers were eliminated in the second round against the Portuguese.
