The Scottish FA Cup was played for the 7th time in 1879/80 . The most important football cup competition in Scottish club football was directed and hosted by the Scottish Football Association. It began on September 6, 1879 and ended with the final on February 21, 1880 in Cathkin Park in Glasgow . As the defending champion, FC Vale of Leven started the competition, which had won last year’s final against Glasgow Rangers through walkover . In this year's final for the Scottish Cup, FC Queen's Park met FC Thornliebank . The Spiders reached the Scottish Cup final for the fourth time. Thornliebank took part in the final for the first and last time. The team from Glasgow won the final 3-0, making it the fourth time in the club's history.
