The Scottish FA Cup was played for the 104th time in 1988/89 . The most important Scottish soccer cup competition, which was directed by the Scottish Football Association, began on December 3rd, 1988 and ended with the final on May 20th, 1989 in Glasgow's Hampden Park . As the defending champion, Celtic Glasgow started the competition, which prevailed against Dundee United in the previous year's final . In this year's Scottish Cup final, Celtic and the Rangers faced each other in the Old Firm derby. The Bhoys were able to win the cup final 1-0 with a goal from Joe Miller . As the winner of the competition launched Celtic in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup season review 1989/90 .
