The Scottish FA Cup was played for the 89th time in 1973/74 . The most important Scottish football cup competition, which was directed and hosted by the Scottish Football Association, began on December 15, 1973 and ended with the final on May 4, 1974 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . As the defending champion, the Glasgow Rangers started the competition, who prevailed against Celtic at the Old Firm in the previous year's final . In this year's Scottish Cup final, Celtic and Dundee United faced each other. The Bhoys won the final 3-0 with goals from John Deans , Harry Hood and Steve Murray . Celtic was in the Scottish Cup final for the sixth time in a row and for the 38th time. In the 1973/74 season, Celtic won the championship and cup double . There was also a defeat in the final of the league cup against FC Dundee . Due to the victory in the championship, Celtic took part in the European Cup in the following season , Dundee United as a loser in the European Cup Winners' Cup .
