The Scottish FA Cup was played for the 78th time in 1962/63 . The most important football cup competition in Scottish club football was directed and hosted by the Scottish Football Association. He started on January 12, 1963, ended with the repetition of the final on May 15, 1963 at Hampden Park of Glasgow . The Glasgow Rangers started the competition as defending champions, having won the final against FC St. Mirren the year before . In this year's Scottish Cup final, the Glasgow Rangers and Celtic Glasgow faced each other at the Old Firm . It was the sixth final derby between the two clubs since the previous finals in 1894 , 1899 , 1904 , 1909 and 1928 . The Rangers won the replay final 3-0 after a 1-1 final, making it the 17th Scottish FA Cup since their first win in 1894. Celtic last won a final against the Rangers in 1904 . After Celtic was the sole record winner of the competition from 1925 to 1962 , the Rangers equalized their arch rivals with this success. Despite the number of spectators in the final of over 120,000 each, the record visits to Hampden Park from 1937 of 149,415 and 146,433 were not achieved. In the 1962/63 season Rangers also won the Scottish Championship . In the League Cup , neither of the two teams from Glasgow could win the title. As champions, the Rangers took part in the European Cup in the following season , and were eliminated in the preliminary round against the eventual finalists Real Madrid . As a defeated cup finalist, the Bhoys in Green took part in the competition of the European Cup Winners' Cup, and reached the semi-finals in which they lost to MTK Budapest .
