The Scottish FA Cup was played for the 114th time in 1998/99 . The most important Scottish soccer cup competition, officially held as Tennent's Scottish Cup and directed by the Scottish Football Association, began on December 5, 1998 and ended with the final on May 29, 1999 in Glasgow's Hampden Park . Heart of Midlothian started as the defending champion in the competition, which prevailed against the Glasgow Rangers in the previous year's final . In this year's final of the Scottish Cup, the Rangers were again in the final against Celtic in the Old Firm derby. The Rangers were able to decide the cup final 1-0 with a goal from Rod Wallace . In the 1998-99 season that won Rangers the triple of Championship , Cup - and the League Cup . Celtic started as a loser in the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup season .
