Stefan Klos (born August 16, 1971 in Dortmund ) is a former German soccer player .

life and career

Klos attended the Theodor-Heuss-Realschule in Eving from 1982 to 1988. After that, he and his girlfriend at the time and today's wife did the Abitur at the grammar school.

As a young goalkeeper, Klos came to Borussia Dortmund in 1988 from TuS Eving-Lindenhorst via TSC Eintracht Dortmund . There he made his professional debut against SG Wattenscheid 09 in the 1st Bundesliga on May 4, 1991 . In his second season in 1991/92 he became a regular player and ousted the crowd favorite "Teddy" de Beer , as de Beer had previously made a few mistakes. Since the return leg of the UEFA Cup semi-final in 1993 at the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps in Auxerre , he has been considered the "hero of Auxerre" among Dortmund supporters, as he saved a penalty in the penalty shoot-out against AJ Auxerre and so for reaching of the final in the UEFA Cup. With the Rangers, Klos was four times Scottish champion . In 2004 he was elected team captain . After several injuries, he ended his career at the end of the 2006/07 season.

Although Klos wasn't a national player, he was still considered one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Bundesliga of his time. His greatest success after two German championships in 1995 and 1996 was winning the 1997 Champions League with Borussia Dortmund under coach Ottmar Hitzfeld in the final against Juventus Turin . On December 2, 1997, he won the World Cup in Tokyo with Dortmund . In 1996 he was supposed to be the third goalkeeper for the 1996 European Football Championship in England , but a broken thumb on the 33rd match day of the 1995/96 season prevented this. Oliver Reck was nominated for him, who played his only international match during the nomination and became European champion. With the exception of missed because of this injury last game of the 1995/96 season, in which it Teddy de Beer represented, Klos denied from his third Bundesliga use at 8. Round 1991/92 until his departure in December 1998 on the Glasgow Rangers all (252 of 253 possible) Bundesliga games of BVB.

From November 24, 2013 to November 20, 2016, Klos was a cash auditor at Borussia Dortmund e. V.
