career

Wieghorst began his career in 1989 with Lyngby BK , with whom he won the national cup in 1990 and became Danish champion in 1992. He then moved to Scotland for Dundee FC . After three years he moved on to the 35-time champions Celtic Glasgow , where he hardly played due to injuries in the first two seasons. He did not play his first season until 1997/98, when Celtic became champions again for the first time in nine years.

In 2000 Wieghorst was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome , which meant that he could not play for a year.

In 2002 he returned to Denmark and switched to master Brøndby IF , where Michael Laudrup was coach. Wieghorst remained injury-free and scored four goals in the game against Farum BK ; the club won the cup in the end and Wieghorst was voted Footballer of the Year in Denmark . Then he was seriously injured again and did not play again until 2005 when he and his team won the double. In the summer of 2005 he ended his career as a player.
