Martin Laursen (born July 26, 1977 in Farvoug ) is a former Danish football player .

The defender Martin Laursen began his career in 1995 at the Danish first division side Silkeborg IF and in 1998 moved to the Italian Serie A at Hellas Verona . In 2001 he was brought in by AC Milan , where he and his Danish compatriot Thomas Helveg were part of the defensive line-up and won the 2003 UEFA Champions League . In 2004 he went to Aston Villa in the English Premier League , where he signed a four-year contract. In the 2008-09 season he was appointed captain of his team. In the first half of the season Aston Villa was still in third place with Laursen and was only a few points away from the championship lead, only when Laursen was out for a long time in December due to a knee injury, Aston Villa slipped to fifth place.

On May 15, 2009 Laursen ended his career due to this knee injury after several attempts at comeback were unsuccessful.
