Career as a player

societies

After Nielsen learned to play football at Sædding-Guldager Idrætsforening , (s) a youth club in Esbjerg , he moved to the second division Esbjerg fB in 1989 . He was not even used for the club, as he was signed by Bundesliga club Bayern Munich immediately after the club change . In two seasons, however, Nielsen was only used once. On May 25, 1991 (31st matchday) in the 7-3 win at home against Hertha BSC , he came on in the 84th minute for Brian Laudrup . He is currently one of 30 "one-time players" at FC Bayern Munich. At the end of the season he was second in the championship with the team .

For the 1991/92 season he first signed a three-year contract with the Swiss first division club FC Sion , but returned to Denmark after just one month . For Odense BK he played 55 first and second division games in two seasons and scored nine goals. At the end of the second season, after the club was promoted, he and his team were second in the championship and won the club cup . In the following season he moved to league rivals FC Copenhagen , with whom he won two more titles as team captain in 1995. After only one season, he moved to league rivals Brøndby IF , with whom he was named Danish Champion in 1996 and Footballer of the Year .

In 1996 he dared to move to England for first division club Tottenham Hotspur , for whom he had played 97 Premier League games in four years . He also won a title with this club. In the 1999 League Cup final against Leicester City , he was voted “Man of the Match” as the goalscorer for the 1-0 winning goal.

After disagreements with Tottenham coach George Graham , he was loaned to the second division Wolverhampton Wanderers in March 2000 . At the end of the season he moved to league rivals Watford FC , for which he completed 100 games in three years. At the end of his football career he played 18 times for Herfølge BK as a player- coach in 2003/04 and scored three goals.

National team

On August 16, 1995, he made his debut in the senior national team , which won 2-0 in Yerevan against hosts Armenia . In this international match he scored his first goal with the goal in the 46th minute. He participated in the European Championships in 1996 and 2000 and in the World Cup in 1998 . Nielsen is a 44-time national player who scored seven goals for his country (including the intermittent 2-0 in the third group game of the 1996 European Championship , the 3-0 win against the national team of Turkey and the intermittent 1-0 in the 1-1 draw. Draw in the second group match against South Africa's national team at the 1998 World Cup ).

Career as a coach

In 2003 he returned to Denmark to initially work for Herfølge BK as a player and assistant coach . After a bad first half of the season, head coach Johnny Petersen was dismissed, so that Nielsen and Michael Schjønberg managed the club's fortunes. They managed to stay up and Nielsen decided to end his active football career to work exclusively as a coach.

Nielsen has lived in Dubai since 2013 , where he works as a business coach and mentor.
