Kaj Kvistgård Poulsen (born December 31, 1942 in Nykøbing Mors ) is a former Danish football player . The attacking player from Vejle BK and footballer of the year 1965 in Denmark played 52 league games in the Bundesliga from 1966 to 1968 at Hannover 96 and scored four goals.

Career

Kaj Poulsen started his career in 1961 with Vejle BK in the Danish first division . With the runner-up in 1965 he achieved the greatest success with Vejle with teammates like Johnny Hansen and Ulrik le Fevre and moved to Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga for the 1966/67 season. Under coach Horst Buhtz , Poulsen made his debut on August 20, 1966 in a 1: 2 away defeat at Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga. On the second match day, August 27, he scored his first goal for Hannover in the Bundesliga in a 2-0 home win against Borussia Dortmund. Like the two other newcomers Christian Breuer and Hermann Straschitz, he belonged to the regular line-up of the "Reds" with 28 league games (2 goals), who finished in 9th place at the end of the round.

In view of the sensational championship from neighbor Eintracht Braunschweig in 1967, the 96 club leadership felt compelled to strengthen the team in order to regain the leadership role in eastern Lower Saxony. President Alfred Strothe reached deep into the club's coffers , which were no longer full, and bet on “Stars” in 1967/68: the two-time international striker Jupp Heynckes came from Mönchengladbach and with Josip Skoblar one of the best technicians and goalscorer in Europe was hired by Olympique Marseille. The storm in particular was now one of the best that the Bundesliga had to offer and consisted exclusively of national players: Rodekamp , Skoblar, Heynckes, Poulsen and Siemensmeyer . The course of the lap did not confirm the hopes of a dangerous attack. With 48:52 points it was only enough to 34:34 points and 10th place at the end of the round. Coach Buhtz was replaced on February 12, 1968 and replaced by Karl-Heinz Mülhausen on February 13 . Poulsen made 24 league appearances (2 goals) and left the Bundesliga on matchday 34, May 25, 1968, with a 2-2 win at Alemannia Aachen.

For the 1968/69 season he moved to Belgium to Beerschot AC , where he stormed alongside Lothar Emmerich in his second year, 1969/70 , when he reached 6th rank . In total, Poulsen has played 28 league games at Beerschot in two rounds and scored ten goals. This was followed by three more years with KFC Turnhout in the 2nd division . In 1973 he returned to Vejle BK, where he ended his career in September 1974. For Velje he played a total of 115 league games in which he scored 21 goals and 11 cup games with 5 goals. He also played a European Cup game. He played a total of 141 competitive games for Velje in which he scored 29 goals.
