Echinopsis friedrichii is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet friedrichii honors the Austrian botanist and cactus specialist Heimo Friedrich .

description

Echinopsis friedrichii usually branches out and forms low groups. The cylindrical, light green shoots reach heights of 30 to 50 centimeters with diameters of 10 to 12.5 centimeters. There are about 14  ribs . The areoles on them are initially whitish. They're pretty close together. About ten needle-like, light yellow thorns arise from the areoles . They have a length of up to 1.2 centimeters.

The long funnel-shaped, white flowers appear near the apex of the shoot. They are 15 to 18 inches long.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis friedrichii is widespread in the Argentine province of Salta in middle altitudes at 1800 meters.

It was first described in 1974 by Gordon Douglas Rowley .

As a synonym was Trichocereus shaferi Britton & Rose included (1920). Roberto Kiesling treated Echinopsis friedrichii in 1978 as a synonym for Echinopsis schickendantzii .
