Gordon Douglas Rowley
Gordon Douglas Rowley (born July 31, 1921 in London - † August 12, 2019 ) was a British botanist and author of numerous books on cacti and other succulents. Its official botanical author abbreviation was " GDRowley ".
Live and act
Gordon Douglas Rowley received his Bachelor of Science degree in botany from the University of London and worked at the John Innes Institute from 1948 to 1961 . He lectured at Reading University until his retirement in 1981 . His specialty are cacti and other succulents . He made several research trips to Africa, the USA and Mexico.
From 1966 to 1976 he was President of the African Succulent Plant Society and from 1983 President of the British Cactus and Succulent Society . He was also the editor of Bradleya magazine for several years .
Honors
- 1981 Veitch Memorial Medal from the Royal Horticultural Society
- 1982 Cactus d'Or of the IOS for the publication of the publication Repertorium plantarum succulentarum from 1952 to 1982
- 2001 Allan Dyer Prize of the Succulent Society of South Africa
