Fritz Joseph Encke
Fritz Joseph Encke (born August 1, 1904 in Cologne ; † March 4, 2000 in Greifenstein (Hesse) ) was a German horticultural writer and gardener .
Live and act
Encke, the third and youngest son of the garden architect Fritz Encke , worked as a gardener in German and North American nurseries in the 1920s. In 1929 he came to the Frankfurt Palmengarten , of which he was director from 1945 to 1968.
He was co-editor of the 9th to 15th editions of the standard work Zander hand dictionary of plant names , founded by Robert Zander , from 1964 to 1994 .
Honors
He received an honorary doctorate in 1968 and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class .
