Ole Kjær (born August 16, 1954 in Kolding ) is a former Danish football player .

Career

society

Kjær started his professional career in 1974 at Esbjerg fB . Two years after starting his career, the goalkeeper was able to win the Landspokalturneringen , the national cup competition, with Esbjerg . This was the first victory in this tournament since 1964 and only the second in the club's history. The team won 2-1 against Holbæk B&I . For the 1978 season Kjær could celebrate the runner-up with his team. Four points were missing from master Vejle BK . Also in the battle for the cup they reached the final again, but had to admit defeat after three games (1: 1 each) with 4: 5 on penalties against BK Frem København . In the same year he was voted Footballer of the Year in Denmark , replacing Allan Hansen . In the following season, the team managed what it narrowly missed in 1978. With only two defeats and thirty goals conceded, Kjær's team had the best defense and established themselves with six points ahead of first place in the league. As the defending champion, the club came in the following year, however, only a disappointing tenth place. The sporting situation at Esbjerg did not improve in the years to come. So it happened that the club was relegated as chairman of the table after the 1986 season. As a result, Kjær decided to move to first division competitor Næstved BK . In 1990 the goalkeeper moved back to his home club Esbjerg fB. With this he was able to win the 1992 autumn championship, an official title in the second Danish division between 1991 and 1995. He then ended his active career. With a total of 474 competitive games for Esbjerg, Kjær holds the club record. On April 11, 1992, he replaced Jens Peder Hansen (465 games between 1943 and 1966) as the record holder.

National team

Internationally, Kjær played 26 times for Denmark . He previously played for the U-21 in his country. Kjær made his debut in the dress of the Danish selection in the 3-2 win on February 2, 1977 in the friendly against Senegal . He took part in the European Championship in France in 1984 , in which the Danes failed in the semifinals to Spain . Behind Ole Qvist , however, he and Troels Rasmussen were only number two between the posts of the Danes. On March 14, 1984, the goalkeeper wore the jersey of Denmark for the last time against the Netherlands . He went down with the team 0: 6.
