Troels Rasmussen (born April 7, 1961 in Ebeltoft ) is a former Danish football goalkeeper .

Career

society

Rasmussen started his professional career in 1980 at Vejle BK . In his first year in the Danish 1st Division , he already came to his first appearances in Denmark's highest football league. After two years he moved to the league rivals Aarhus GF . There he developed into a regular goalkeeper and one of the best players in this position in Denmark. In 1986 Rasmussen won the Danish championship with AGF for the first time in 26 years. With just 22 goals against, Rasmussen was a guarantee that Aarhus landed before Brøndby IF . No goalkeeper had to go less behind him than Rasmussen this season. Already in 1984 the goalkeeper with his team vice-champion. Back then they were only one point behind Master Vejle BK. With 30 goals against, Rasmussen was already the safest number 1 in the league. In 1987 and 1988 Rasmussen and his team won the Landspokalturneringen , the national cup competition. In 1992 the club repeated this success. In 1994 Rasmussen ended his active career. With a total of 20 international appearances for Aarhus GF, he and John Stampe-Møller hold the club's record. He also scored five goals from the penalty spot in a total of 391 compulsory games for his club.

National team

Internationally, Rasmussen completed 35 games for Denmark . He took part in the 1984 European Championship in France (from the semifinals), the 1986 World Cup in Mexico (from the second round) and the 1988 European Championship in Germany (from the group stage). Rasmussen made his debut for the national team on September 22, 1982 in the European Championship qualifier against England . The game ended 1-1. While he was only number 2 of the Danes behind Ole Kjær in 1984 , national coach Sepp Piontek placed his trust in him before the 1986 World Cup and let him go into the tournament as number one. He made his World Cup debut on June 4, 1986 in a 1-0 win over Scotland .

In the last group game, after the Danes had made it through, Lars Høgh played for Rasmussen. Høgh convinced in the 2-0 win against Germany , so that Piontek also bet in the round of 16 against Spain and Rasmussen was only a spectator. After the game against the Spanish selection, the Danes were eliminated with a 5-1 defeat. At the European Championship in 1988 Rasmussen went again as No. 1 in the tournament. But after the 2: 3 opening defeat against Spain, the goalkeeper was replaced by the young Peter Schmeichel , who also played the last group game.

Rasmussen wore the Danish jersey for the last time on September 4, 1991 against Iceland .
