Ľubomír Moravčík (born June 22, 1965 in Nitra ) is a former Slovak football player and current coach .

Athletic career

Club career

Ľubomír Moravčík started at Plastika Nitra , after the 1990 World Cup, he moved to AS Saint-Étienne . After six years he went to SC Bastia . In 1998, after a short interlude at MSV Duisburg , the Scottish top club Celtic Glasgow signed him . He ended his career, plagued by injury concerns, at the age of 37 in 2002 with JEF United Ichihara .

Moravčík is considered one of the most popular football players in Slovakia. He was also one of the idols at Celtic Glasgow. In 1992 he was voted Czechoslovak Footballer of the Year. In 2001 he was awarded this honor in Slovakia. Zinédine Zidane once referred to him as his role model. Moravčík's strengths were mainly his two-footed ability and his dribbling.

Selection bets

Moravčík made 79 senior internationals. He played 42 games for Czechoslovakia before the country was divided . 37 missions for Slovakia followed later .

Coaching career

In 2005 he became the coach of the U16 and U17 national teams of Slovakia. He was also president of MFK Ružomberok and coach there for two games.
