Vladimír Labant (born June 8, 1974 in Čadca ) is a former Slovak football player on the position of defender .

Career

Labant began his career with the Slovak first division club MŠK Žilina before moving to league rivals Dukla Banská Bystrica in 1993 . After 22 appearances in the Slovak Corgoň league , the young defender moved back to Žilina. After just one season, Vladimír Labant moved to 1. FC Košice in 1995 . He also left this club after a year and returned to his old club Dukla Banská Bystrica for a year.

In 1997 the defender finally moved abroad - to Slavia Prague . Here the soccer player quickly attracted the attention of other European soccer clubs and was eventually lured away by Slavia's city rivals Sparta Prague in 1999. In the Czech Gambrinus League , Vladimír Labant celebrated his first major successes with these two teams. With Slavia Prague he won the Czech Cup in 1997, with Sparta Prague he was Czech champion twice and played in the UEFA Champions League . During this time he was also named "Slovakian Footballer of the Year" in 2000.

In January 2002 Vladimír Labant was bought by the English first division side West Ham United . However, Vladimír Labant struggled with injuries and only played seven games for the club before returning to Sparta in Prague that same year. Here he was Czech champion for the third time in 2003, but also had to struggle with injuries - he broke his ankle in training. In 2005, Vladimír Labant finally came to Austria for the first time to VfB Admira Wacker Mödling and at the end of the season switched to the Austrian record champions Rapid Vienna , where he was under contract until January 5, 2006. At the beginning of the spring season, Labant switched to Spartak Trnava .

Vladimír Labant made his debut in March 1999 in the qualifier for the European Championship 2000 against Romania in the Slovak national team . In the following years he had numerous international appearances for Slovakia, especially in the qualifications for the 2002 World Cup and the 2004 European Championship. Since March 2004, however, there have been no more appointments to the national team.
