Szilárd Németh [ 'silaːrd' neːmɛt ] (born August 8, 1977 in Komárno ) is a former football player from Slovakia who belongs to the Hungarian minority in Slovakia.

Németh started his career at Slovan Bratislava and then moved to the east Slovak 1. FC Košice . After scoring 12 goals in 18 games there, he was loaned out for half a year by the top Czech club Sparta Prague . The next stop was the Slovak club Inter Bratislava . After Inter Milan was also interested in him, he signed a contract in the FA Premier League with Middlesbrough FC in 2001 , which paid him a transfer fee of almost 7 million euros.

During the four years at Middlesbrough he never had a place in the starting XI. During the 2005/06 season there were rumors of a move to the UEFA Cup winner CSKA Moscow . Németh was injured in a game against Liverpool early in the season and was unable to play for a few months. In January 2006 he was loaned to Racing Strasbourg , where he received no contract extension after the club's relegation in summer 2006. In August 2006, he signed a two-year contract with Alemannia Aachen , which contained an exit clause in the event of a relegation of the Aacheners and a fixed transfer fee after one year. Due to a pulmonary embolism , which ended almost fatally for him , he was almost not on the field during the season, was only used longer in the last two games of the season and at least scored one goal. At the end of the season, Nemeth decided to stay with Alemannia despite their relegation, scored nine times for them in the 2007/08 season and finally agreed with her in May 2008 on a contract extension until 2010. However, the club decided in March 2010 against another engagement by Nemeth in the following season. After his engagement at Alemannia, Nemeth took a year off from sports. In 2011 he returned to football and went to Austria to the Lower Austrian 1st Class East Association FK Hainburg.

Németh played in the Slovak national football team and was the record scorer in his country with 22 goals in 59 games until Róbert Vittek broke his record on June 28, 2010. He was voted Player of the Year in his home country in 2000.
