Peter Dubovský (born May 7, 1972 in Bratislava , † June 23, 2000 in Ko Samui , Thailand ) was a Slovak football player .

Club career

Dubovský started playing football at Vinohrady Bratislava. At the age of 13, the striker moved to Slovan Bratislava , where he made the leap to the professional team in 1989. With Slovan Dubovský 1991/92 Czechoslovak football champion. Dubovský secured the top scorer cannon with 27 goals. In the following season he scored 24 goals and was again top scorer.

The Slovak then moved to Real Madrid , where he only scored two goals in two years. For the 1995/96 season Dubovský moved to Real Oviedo .

National team

At the age of 19 Dubovský made his debut on November 13, 1991 against Spain in the dress of Czechoslovakia . The attacker played his last game for the ČSFR on November 17, 1993 in the World Cup qualifier against Belgium (0-0) in Brussels . Dubovský completed a total of 14 internationals for Czechoslovakia, he scored six times.

For Slovakia Dubovský completed 33 international matches in which he scored 12 goals.

death

Dubovský was killed on June 23, 2000 while on vacation in Thailand when he fell down a waterfall.

The Slovak Football Association annually awards the Peter Dubovský Prize (Slovak: Cena Petra Dubovského ) to the best young Slovak player under the age of 21.
