Miroslav Karhan (born June 21, 1976 in Trnava ) is a Slovak football coach . As a player, he was active in defensive midfield.
Club career
Karhan played for Spartak Trnava in his youth . He got his first professional contract with Spartak and played there for five years from 1994. He then moved to Spain to Betis Sevilla for one season . He completed another season with the Turkish first division side Beşiktaş Istanbul . He then moved to the German Bundesliga for a total of ten years, where he played for VfL Wolfsburg for six years and then for 1. FSV Mainz 05 for four years . In June 2011 he returned after twelve years to his youth club and first professional club in Trnava.
National team
Karhan's personal greatest success was two goals scored in a friendly match between the Slovak national team and the German national team on September 3, 2005. Since September 2006 he has been the record player for Slovakia. In 2007 he announced his resignation from the national team. In August 2008 he returned to the national team under a new Slovak coach. Due to a thigh injury sustained shortly before the World Cup, he was unable to take part in the World Cup in South Africa, where Slovakia reached the round of 16. On October 12, 2010 he made his 100th international match in a 1-1 draw against Ireland in the European Championship qualification. After failing to qualify for the 2012 European Championship, Karhan announced his resignation from the Slovak national team after 107 games.
Trainer
After his career as a player, Karhan was coach of the U-15 and U-19 at Spartak Trnava. In 2016 he became the head coach of the club's professional team.
