Francis "Frank" Haffey (born November 28, 1938 in Glasgow ) is a former Scottish football goalkeeper . He played over 200 competitive games for Celtic Glasgow , was a two-time national player and was considered an eccentric . After his career as a football player, he became a cabaret singer in Australia .

Frank Haffey was born in the Scottish metropolis of Glasgow in 1938 and grew up in the Ibrox district . He began his football career at Campsie Black Watch in the 1950s . On February 18, 1958, he signed a contract with Celtic Glasgow . He made his debut for the club on April 30, 1958 in the league game against Third Lanark . Under Jimmy McGrory , the coach of Celtic , it remained in the 1957/58 season with this one use for him. From the season 1958/59 Haffey was used in each season until 1963/64 in double digits in the league. In the season 1961/62 and 1962/63 he was the goalkeeper of Celtic . Haffey lost as a goalkeeper between the posts with Celtic the Scottish Cup finals in 1961 and 1963 and remained with the club without a title win. In November 1963 he suffered a broken ankle in the Glasgow Cup game against Partick Thistle , from which he did not recover for a long time. In October 1964 he moved to England for the second division club Swindon Town after he was no longer used at Celtic . After a year in Swindon, he emigrated to Australia and played in Sydney for the St. George Saints and Hakoah before becoming a cabaret singer .

National team

Frank Haffey completed two international matches for the Scottish national football team , both against England . On April 9, 1960 he made his debut in a 1-1 draw at Hampden Park . His last use was on April 15, 1961 in a 3: 9 defeat at Wembley , Scotland's biggest defeat against England.
