Impersonal entity component of the entirety of Elster Floßgraben : Floßgraben (see impersonal entity 09304747) (Map) 1608-1610 The determination of the route as the shortest and most economically effective connection between Stöntzsch (a demolished village west of Pegau due to the Profen opencast mine) and Leipzig, the combination of artificially created ditches and natural water courses make the Elsterfloßgraben an important testimony to the hydraulic engineering of the 17th century high regional historical value.

The so-called Leipzig raft ditch is part of the Pleiße-Elster raft system, which has been used to raft logs from the electoral forests of the Vogtland since the late 16th century. It was a system of artificially created ditches that were connected to natural rivers or mill ditches and provided with weirs, overflows and rakes to enable timber to be transported. The Kleine or Leipziger Floßgraben branched off from the Großer Elsterfloßgraben at the village of Stöntzsch, flowed into the Elster behind Pegau, led from Wiederau over the straightened Batschke past Zwenkau to Gautzsch (Markkleeberg). This part is interrupted or drained today by the opencast mines of Profen, Zwenkau and Cospuden. It was already completed in 1579 and led into the Dölitz Mühlpleiße, where the raft place ("The Rafts") was between Dölitz and Lößnig. Since this route often suffered from a lack of water due to the numerous mills, the construction of a new raft ditch began in 1608, which led directly to the southern suburb of Leipzig: The section that begins as "Batschke" in Markkleeberg-West east of the opencast mine has been preserved , the Kees'schen Park and - parallel to the Equipagenweg - the Waldbad Lauer flows past the Connewitzer Holz, is crossed by the "White Bridge" and flows into the Pleiße above the Hakenbrücke. At the head weir (at the height of the later Germania baths, which no longer exist today), the raft ditch was taken from the Nonnenmühlgraben, which was built in 1287, led past the fire forecourt and branched off at the spike bridge. As a timber ditch, it ran in an arch over the raft place, which had been released in 1611 as a wood piling and sales place. The rafting was operated until the opening of the new fiscal lumber yard at the coal station in the Körnerstraße in 1864. In 1867 the ditch on the raft place was filled, the Nonnenmühlgraben was vaulted over its entire length from 1951. (Monument topography Federal Republic of Germany, monuments in Saxony, city of Leipzig, southern urban expansion, 1998) The preserved section of the raft ditch begins as a waterless channel 10m west of the railway bridge in the northwest of Pegau. After the level crossing, it continues eastwards between the railway embankment and the nursery, crosses under Carsdorfer Straße in a vault and leads to the northern city limits of Pegau in the direction of Elstermühlgraben, where it ends today, originally the Kleine Flößgraben connected the main raft ditch west of Stöntzsch to the Weißen Elster north of Pegau. The section between Elstermühlgraben and Weißer Elster no longer exists today.

(map)
1908-1910 A purely family business from 1911 until production was discontinued in 1978, hardly any modern technology, therefore preserved the early form of industrial brick production, of local, economic and technological importance.

Julius Erbs founded the brickworks in 1909 and started operations in 1911. The elongated Hoffmann ring furnace with brick walling with the chambers or the vault of the combustion channel and a chimney attached to the side, a preserved drying shed, the press house with Schlickeysen press with automatic cutter from 1908/10 as well as a bucket chain excavator and field railway for transporting the extracted clay originate from this time. The only remaining one of the original three drying sheds is built with shelves for air drying the bricks in wood construction and with a gable roof. The press house is made of brickwork, with wooden cladding on the gable side and the upper floor in half-timbered construction. During the Second World War, the company was considered unimportant and production was stopped. The drying sheds were used as garages. After the war, until the expropriation in the mid-1970s, the technology was used in the family business in the late 19th century. Around 30 employees produced around 85,000 bricks in the summer months, in particular for construction projects in Leipzig. I.a. the Leipzig Opera was rebuilt after the Second World War with bricks from the factory. In 1980 the complex was placed under monument protection and extensively restored in 1992/93. It has been a museum complex since then. The brickworks is the last, largely in the original, of what used to be more than ten in the Pegau area. The technical equipment represents the typical early industrial design of an elongated Hoffmann ring furnace from the end of the 19th century to around 1970. The lateral arrangement of the chimney is a technical feature. This is the reason for their technical, economic and local historical value. (LfD / 2013)

(map)
re. 1903 As part of a closed row of streets of the Wilhelminian-era city expansion, clinker brick facade, of architectural and urban development-historical importance, in a location that characterizes the townscape opposite the city's train station. The building embodies an informative value in terms of building history and urban development history. As a result of the railway connection in 1873, small industrial companies were founded in the former agricultural town of Pegau and urban development projects were carried out beyond the old town center. The suburb of the train station in particular bears witness to this development phase. It shows the typical features of an urban expansion area around 1900: a planned floor plan and closed apartment buildings in combination with villa-like properties.

The apartment building at Bahnhofstrasse 43 is one of the particularly important buildings in the suburb of the station that documents the aforementioned development. The corner building, erected in 1903, is a very demanding building for small-town conditions, which is not inferior to the contemporary rental houses in Leipzig or other large cities. It thus shows how building owners and contractors in the small-town milieu orientated their construction projects to the big-city building activity. The complex architectural design of the building also corresponds to its position in the urban structure. The building marks the beginning of the southern row of tenement buildings on Bahnhofstrasse and offers a first effective focal point for travelers walking into the city from the train station. In addition to the listed aspects of urban development history, which justify the monument value of the apartment building in question, there is the architectural historical testimony value. Due to its shape and design, the building is suitable for showing the general development of the tenement building characteristic of the period around 1900. (LfD / 2011)

Water tower Georg-Heydemann-Platz
(map)
re. 1906 A clinker brick building with a hooded roof, an important building for the city's supply chain with a character that shapes the cityscape.

The 45 meter high, round water tower was built in 1906 as part of the construction of an urban water supply network according to plans by the Leipzig building councilor Otto Enke. The entrance, crowned by a mansard roof supported by consoles, stands out strikingly from the otherwise unadorned tower shaft made of yellow clinker bricks. The base zone is plastered. A row of slotted windows at the upper end of the tower shaft gives the water tower the defensive impression of a castle tower. Above this, the container storey protrudes on a number of clinker brackets and is closed off by a tent roof with a ventilation hood. The steel water tank (loft tank), which is still used to store water and ensures constant water pressure, holds 350 m³ of water. The tower bears testimony to the beginnings of municipal water supply around 1900 and is therefore of technical historical value. In addition, it has a significant impact on the cityscape. Saxon postal mile pillars (totality): Post mile pillar Leipziger Vorstadt

re. 1723 The copy of a distance column is important in terms of traffic history.

Copy of a Saxon distance column made from Zeitz red sandstone, base, plinth and obelisk with heraldic cartouche (originally made from Nebra sandstone), marked 1723. The column is assigned to the Zeitz sculptor Adam Bockfleisch. On two sides of the distance column there are distance inscriptions corresponding to the two post roads that went through Pegau. "L.Th." (Leipziger Tor), Pegau, 1723, post horn sign that is open to the left. In the foot of the base there is a later inscription: “Newly erected in the 25th year of King Albrecht's reign ...” The Saxon coat of arms of this column is a heraldic feature. The “mistake” was “corrected” in 1983 out of ignorance during the redesign of the written part. In 1991 the master stonemason Lothar Franz (Leipzig) made a copy of the column. The original writing block of the pillar was redesigned in 2010 as a work of art distance pillar and installed in Pegau. The heavily weathered original coat of arms can also be seen in a former honorary grove in the city. The rest of the second Pegau distance column from the former Obertor still exists as a war memorial in Profen. In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars. Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679–1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of 1 mile (= 9.062 km). The distance pillars were marked with the monogram "AR" for "Augustus Rex", the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram "AR". The distances were given in hours (1 hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km). This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system. (LfD / 2013)

The two-storey half-timbered house was built around 1820, its residents were craftsmen (according to the land register entry in 1854, master wheelwright Friedrich August Herrmann). The front is plastered, the half-timbered construction is evident here from the wall thickness of the upper floor. The house entrance has a basket-arched frame with a keystone, which is made of wood like the window frames on the ground floor. The half-timbered construction is open on the eastern half-timbered gable and on the courtyard side. It becomes apparent that the building originally consisted largely of half-timbered buildings on the ground floor as well. Inside, original elements such as the roof structure or door leaves have also been preserved. As part of the historical development in the eastern area of the old town of Pegau, the so-called lower town, the essentially authentically preserved object is an important testimony to the building and population structure that once existed here. It refers to the construction and way of life that was characteristic of a small town like Pegau in the past and was characterized by handcraft and trade. This gives the building a sense of local history. In its typical form as a small-town craftsman's house, it also has architectural significance.

Individual monument of the totality Elsterfloßgraben : Bridge LXXII (see totality 09304747) 1608-1610 The combination of artificially created ditches and natural water courses makes the Elsterfloßgraben an important testimony to the hydraulic engineering of the 17th century with a high regional historical value. The bridge number LXXII is a concreted sandstone vault with sandstone balustrade and pipe railing. The LXXII bridge is part of the Großer Elsterfloßgraben, which in turn is part of the Pleiße-Elster raft system. The moat was built from 1579 and was intended to supply wood to the Saxon saltworks near Weißenfels. The 79 bridges originally built parallel to the moat were numbered consecutively with Roman numerals from Crossen (Thuringia). After the logging industry declined at the beginning of the 17th century, the trench was used to transport construction timber and firewood for the city of Leipzig. For this purpose, from 1610 the small or Leipzig raft ditch was created from the village of Stöntzsch. Rafting on the largest European raft ditch system with a total length of 93 km was operated until 1864. The LXXII bridge is an original testimony to the supra-regional economic importance of the trench as a transport system, which has lasted for over 300 years. 09304748

Individual monument of the totality Elsterfloßgraben : Bridge LXVIII (see totality 09304747) (Map) 1608-1610 The combination of artificially created ditches and natural water courses makes the Elsterfloßgraben an important testimony to the hydraulic engineering of the 17th century with a high regional historical value.

Bridge with concrete bridge on sandstone bases, the bridge LXVIII is part of the Great Elster raft ditch, which in turn is part of the Pleiße-Elster raft system. The ditch was built from 1579 and was intended to supply wood to the Saxon saltworks near Weißenfels. The 79 bridges originally built parallel to the moat were numbered with Roman numerals from Crossen (Thuringia). After the logging industry fell at the beginning of the 17th century, the ditch was used to transport timber and firewood for the city of Leipzig. (LfD / 2013)

around 1200, later reshaped In the old location of Hohenlohe, a Romanesque core building with west bar and transept, partly Gothic windows, Romanesque columned portal, late historical crypt houses, of architectural, regional and local history, artistically and characterizing the townscape.

The Nikolaikirche Kitzen-Hohenlohe is a Romanesque building of unusual characteristics, which can be traced back to a Cistercian convent, which was located here for some time since the late 12th century. Began or executed as a single-nave quarry stone building with a west tower in the 12th century, the church underwent profound changes around 1200 in connection with the use of the monastery. The construction of the transept and choir resulted in a cross-shaped floor plan with a centralizing tendency. The decisive construction phase is also reflected in the increased use of stone. Stepped round arch portals in late Romanesque shapes are inserted at the end of the transept. There is no reliable information about the former design of the east end. Around the middle or in the second half of the 13th century the nave was extended to the east with a straight choir closure and three-window group, framed by a blind arch, and the lancet windows on the nave and transept are also assigned to this conversion. In the late Gothic period a sacristy was added in the south-east corner of the transept and choir, at the latest with the elimination of an apse located there, an apse is also to be assumed on the northern arm of the transept. 1631 Destruction by fire, soon afterwards renovation, roofing and wooden ceiling from this period. 1822 renovation. From 2007 repair work, accompanied by building archaeological investigations and restoration measures. The Nikolaikirche in Kitzen-Hohenlohe, probably originally built as a parish church, is an important testimony to the building activity of the Cistercian women in the area of today's Saxony thanks to its formative conversion to a monastery church. Cistercian complexes are only preserved in Saxony in small numbers and mostly only in remnants, so that the church in Hohenlohe has a particularly informative value due to its largely preserved historical building stock. It can therefore also be regarded as a prominent example of the late Romanesque architectural development east of the Saale. In addition, it is a formative part of the local history and the townscape. Under these aspects, the Nikolaikirche has architectural, regional and local history as well as architectural and local significance. (LfD / 2015)

House of a former three-sided courtyard Am Berg 9
(map)
around 1750 A half-timbered building typical of the landscape as a former half-timbered house with significance in terms of local history, regional history and architectural history.

Residential house of a former three-sided courtyard, the core of which was probably built around the middle of the 18th century, the gable was massively replaced in brick masonry at the end of the 19th century, plus a rear extension. Small two-storey half-timbered house with a gable roof, the courtyard side still largely has the original construction on both storeys, living room area with a surrounding construction, behind it, like on the upper floor, two-tier half-timbering, the massive gables and the plastered rear extension, which is also made of masonry, this with a flat pent roof. The former room with a board ceiling from the 18th century, support boards and girders are profiled. The building is a document for the rural construction and way of life in the place and in the region, which gives it its local and regional historical significance. Its high age should be emphasized, the house is certainly one of the oldest buildings in Sittel. As a half-timbered house typical of the landscape with characteristic, meanwhile relatively rare construction elements (surrounding ground floor structure), it also embodies important structural historical information. Stately three-sided courtyard, located on the southwest edge of the cul-de-sac village, of the buildings, the residential building, the adjacent side building and the barn that borders the courtyard on the field side are worth a monument. These are half-timbered buildings that were built around 1800. The barn could have been from the 18th century. The two-storey residential building, the ground floor made of solid stone masonry, the upper storey in half-timbered with wattle-work, double-walled, half-hip roof, a younger extension on the outside, solid, plastered, pent roof. Inside living room with board ceiling. The side building also has two floors, the ground floor is solid, plastered, the upper floor has two-tier half-timbering, the gable to the house is completely solid, plastered, and a gable roof with bat dormers. The building was originally used as a stable and fodder floor, in the facing part probably also servants' rooms, in the roof on the courtyard side a large loading hatch. Barn completely in half-timbering, very good original condition, bat dormers in the saddle roof on the courtyard side. The buildings are evidence of the earlier rural building culture and way of life in the Leipzig area. They refer to the tradition of half-timbered construction in the place and in the region. Under these aspects, they embody both local history and architectural history information. Residential stable house with built-in garage, barn (half-timbered) with bat dormers, farmhouse renovated, residential house partially renovated, barn endangered.

Individual monument of the totality Elsterfloßgraben : Bridge LXV (see totality 09304747) (Map) 1608-1610 The combination of artificially created ditches and natural water courses makes the Elsterfloßgraben an important testimony to the hydraulic engineering of the 17th century with a high regional historical value.

Bridge number LXIV with sandstone vault: The bridge LXIV is part of the Großer Elsterfloßgraben, which in turn is part of the Pleiße-Elster raft system.

(map)
16./17. Century (raft ditch) The combination of artificially created ditches and natural water courses makes the Elsterfloßgraben an important testimony to the hydraulic engineering of the 17th century, with a high level of regional and technical history.

The round arch bridge made of quarry stone with overconcrete sandstone vault is a testimony to the Elster-Pleiße raft system, which from 1579 originally served to supply wood to the Saxon salt pans near Weißenfels, and later to supply the city of Leipzig with wood. In 1864 the company was closed due to the unprofitable situation. For centuries, the water system of the White Elster was a defining part of the regional landscape structure, which was largely destroyed in the 20th century by the profound changes in lignite mining, so the evidence based on this system, which is responsible for the historical development of Leipzig and It was so important to make clear reference to the surrounding area, so it was of high documentation value.
