Iñigo Gaínza (born February 16, 1995 in Oiartzun ) is a Spanish ice hockey player who has been under contract with FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super League since 2013 .

Career

Iñigo Gaínza began his career as a hockey player in his Basque homeland with CH Txuri Urdin from Donostia-San Sebastián , for whom he initially played in the youth field. In 2011 he made his debut in the Superliga , the highest Spanish division. In 2013 he moved to league rivals FC Barcelona in the Catalan capital.

International

For Spain , Gaínza took part in the junior division of the U18 World Championships in 2010 , 2011 , 2012 and 2013 , when he reached the most scorer points for a defender, and the U20 World Championships in 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 and 2015 , when he was named the best defender of the tournament and best player of his team was chosen, each part in Division II. He also played with the Spanish student selection at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada .

Gaínza made his debut in the men's national team at the 2014 World Cup , when he and his team were promoted from group B to group A in Division II. In 2015 he also played in Division II. He also represented the Iberians in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
