The FC Barcelona Hoquei gel is the hockey department of the Catalan Barcelona -based FC Barcelona . The club plays in the Superliga , the highest ice hockey league in Spain.
history
The ice hockey department of FC Barcelona was founded in January 1972 after the construction of the Palau de Gel ice hockey stadium was completed. The club won its first title in 1976 when it won the Spanish Cup . In the mid-1980s, the men's team was dissolved by President Josep Lluís Núñez due to a lack of sponsorship income . The club's U20 team won the Spanish Junior Championship in 1987, which was rated as the top division due to the launch of the Super League. The following year the juniors were able to win the championship again.
Only in 1990 did FC Barcelona take part in the Super League again and have since won it three times. Due to the championships won, FC Barcelona was eligible to play in the IIHF Continental Cup , but did not get past the first qualifying round in previous participations.
