The FC Livingston (officially: Livingston Football Club ) - founded in 1943 - is a professional football club from Livingston , Scotland .

The club is originally from Edinburgh and was founded in 1943 as Ferranti Thistle . When you were elected to the Scottish Football League in 1974 , the name had to be changed because the name Ferranti was used in advertising. Since the team played in Meadowbank Stadium , they called themselves from then on Meadowbank Thistle . The team was relocated to the newly founded city of Livingston in 1995, the club name, the colors and the coat of arms changed. The newly created club won the third division in 1995/96 and within the next five years the second division and the first division were both finished in first place.

development

Livingston's first season was crowned 1995/96 with winning the Scottish Third Division . Three years later, the team also won Division Two and the First Division in 2000/01, and only six years after the club was founded they advanced to the Premier League . Here, too, they were immediately successful and took third place, which qualified for participation in the UEFA Cup . Livingston won the first national trophy in 2003/04 when the Livi Lions beat Hibernian 2-0 to win the Scottish League Cup at Hampden Park .

On February 11, 2006 Paul Lambert resigned as a coach after twelve defeats in a row when Livingston was already bottom of the table. He was replaced by former player John Robertson .

Despite good performances, Livingston finally got down in May 2006. After poor performance by the team, John Robertson was released on April 15, 2007. He was succeeded on May 22, 2007 by former Hibs assistant trainer Mark Proctor .

After the 6th place in 2006/2007 and a 7th place in the following season, Livi sniffed the ascent again in the 08/09 season. The young, hungry team with its new star Leigh Griffiths ultimately turned out to be too inconsistent and the success was overshadowed by the club's financial problems. These financial problems finally culminated on August 5, 2009 when the club was relegated to the Third Division.
