Gary James Holt (born March 9, 1973 in Irvine ) is a former Scottish national soccer player and current soccer coach . In his career as a player, Holt was under contract in Scotland and England. The greatest success was winning the Scottish Cup in 1997. Between 2000 and 2004, the midfielder ran ten times for the Scottish national team . After the end of his playing career, Holt works as a coach.

Career

As a player

Gary Holt joined Celtic Glasgow in 1993 . For the first team, however, he was not used, after which he moved to Stoke City . There, too, he was denied an assignment. In August 1995 he came to FC Kilmarnock . There he won the Scottish Cup in 1997 in the final against FC Falkirk . In March 2001 he moved to the English second division club Norwich City for a transfer fee of £ 100,000 . In Norwich he was second division champion in 2004 and rose to the Premier League . In the first division, he completed 27 games. The promoted team rose straight away, and Holt joined the third division club Nottingham Forest . After two seasons, he moved to fourth division Wycombe Wanderers . He was then under contract with Colchester United and Lowestoft Town .

Between 2000 and 2004 Holt completed ten international matches for the Scottish national football team , including three games in the World Cup qualification.

As a trainer

In July 2010, Holt became an assistant coach at the Norwich City Youth Academy. In April 2013 he became the coach of the Scottish second division club FC Falkirk . Falkirk was in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup at this point. Holt and his team lost this against Hibernian Edinburgh . In the following 2013/14 season Falkirk was third in the league and was able to qualify for the promotion play-offs. There the club lost to Hamilton Academical . In June 2014, Holt became assistant coach under Neil Adams in Norwich. He then worked under Alex Neil . At the end of the 2015/16 season, the contract was not extended. In August 2018 he took over the coaching position at the Scottish first division club FC Livingston .
