Theodore Whitmore (born August 5, 1972 ) is a retired Jamaican soccer player at the position of midfielder and soccer coach .

Whitmore began his career at the Montego Bay Boys Club and moved to Ajax Cape Town in South Africa in 1994 . From there he returned to the Violet Kickers in his home country. He then moved to Hull City in England. In his three years he was a regular player and scored 9 goals in 77 games.

The midfielder then gained further international experience at Livingston FC in Scotland and the Tranmere Rovers (England).

In 2006 he moved back to Jamaica. He is now a player-coach at Seba United, a Jamaican cult club from Montego Bay. He was also assistant coach of the Jamaican national team until he left this post in 2013.

National team

"Tappa" Whitmore became legendary with his 2 goals in Jamaica's only World Cup victory against Japan in France in 1998 (final score 2-1). He made 105 caps for Jamaica in which he scored 24 goals. So far he holds the record with the most international goals for Jamaica.

Trivia

  • In 2003, Tappa was charged with the death of fellow player Steve Malcolm , who died in 2001 . Whitmore was at the wheel of the car that Malcolm was in. However, Whitmore was acquitted of these charges.
  • The fact that an apple variety (the Whitmore apple) was named after him in Jamaica shows how popular he is on the island.
