Scottish League One has been the name for the third highest football league in Scotland and a division of the Scottish Professional Football League since the 2013/14 season . Up until and including the 2012/13 season, the name of the league was Scottish Second Division . 10 teams play in the league.
The teams play against each other four times. There are three points for wins and one counter for a draw. In the event of a tie, the goal difference and then the number of goals scored decide on the table position.
By the 2005/06 season, the two teams placed first were allowed to move up to the First Division , and the last two were relegated to the Third Division . Since 2005/06, the rule has been that only the first in the table automatically moves up and the last in the table moves down. The teams in positions two to four play with the bottom of the table in the First Division in play-offs for promotion or relegation.
