The Scottish Football League Second Division was played in 2001/02 for the 27th time after the introduction of the Premier League as the third highest Scottish league . It was also the twenty-seventh host the third-highest football -Spielklasse the gentlemen in Scotland under the name of Second Division . In the 2001/02 season 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 matchdays. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .

The championship was won by Queen of the South , which also secured participation in the 2002/03 First Division season . In addition to Queens , the runner-up Alloa Athletic also rose. Greenock Morton had to relegate to the Third Division . The FC Clydebank was from the end of the season Scottish Football League excluded. Top scorer with 19 goals went to John O'Neill of Queen of the South and Paul Tosh of Forfar Athletic .
