The Scottish Football League Second Division was played for the eighth time in 1982/83 . After the introduction of the Premier Division it was only the third highest Scottish league . It was also the eighth host the third-highest football -Spielklasse the gentlemen in Scotland under the name of Second Division . In the 1982/83 season, 14 clubs competed against each other in a total of 39 game days. Each team played three times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
