The Scottish Football League Second Division was held in 2009/10 for the 35th time after the introduction of the Premier League as the third highest Scottish league . In addition, it was the thirty-fifth event as the third highest division of men's football in Scotland under the name Second Division . In the 2009/10 season, 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .

The championship won Stirling Albion , which at the same time secured participation in the First Division season 2010/11 . On the ascent play-offs took Alloa Athletic , the FC Cowdenbeath and Brechin City part. The third place from Cowdenbeath was able to successfully prevail in this and rise next to Albion . FC Arbroath fought in vain in the relegation for the remaining in the Second Division . FC Clyde also had to relegate to the Third Division . Relegation

Participants in the relegation games were FC Arbroath from this year's Second Division, as well as the three teams from the Third Division , Forfar Athletic , FC East Stirlingshire and FC Queen's Park .
