Cowdenbeath is a town in the Scottish council area of Fife . It is about ten kilometers north-northeast of Dunfermline and a good 30 km north-northwest of Edinburgh . In 2011 Cowdenbeath had 11,401 residents.
history
Originally, Cowdenbeath was a small rural settlement, which then grew considerably as the coal and ore deposits in Fife were developed from 1850 onwards. The population of Cowdenbeath rose from 1,148 in 1861 to 2,712 in 20 years. At its peak, around 25,000 lived in Cowdenbeath. With the increasing closure of the mines, the population decreased again and has fluctuated around 12,000 since 1961. Cowdenbeath FC has been a professional football club in Cowdenbeath since 1881 .

Cowdenbeath is connected to the trunk road network by the A92 , which runs directly to the south and connects Dunfermline via Dundee to Stonehaven . A few kilometers to the west is the M90 motorway , which leads south of Dunfermline over the Forth Bridge to Edinburgh. Cowdenbeath had its own train station as early as the 19th century. Today it is served by First ScotRail on the Fife Circle Line .
