The Scottish Football League Second Division was held in 2008/09 for the 34th time after the introduction of the Premier League as the third highest Scottish league . It was also the thirty-fourth host the third-highest football -Spielklasse the gentlemen in Scotland under the name of Second Division . In the 2008/09 season, 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
The championship won the Raith Rovers , who secured themselves thereby participation in the First Division season 2009/10 . On the ascent play-offs took Ayr United , Brechin City and FC Peterhead part. The runner-up from Ayr was able to successfully prevail in this and rise alongside the rovers . In the relegation for the remaining in the Second Division, FC Queen's Park fought in vain . FC Stranraer also had to relegate to the Third Division . Due to the forced relegation of FC Livingston from First to Third Division, the two finalists of the play-offs ( FC Cowdenbeath and FC Stenhousemuir ) rose to the Second Division. The top scorer with 24 goals was Kevin Smith of the Raith Rovers.

Relegation
Participants in the relegation games were FC Queen's Park from this year's Second Division, as well as the three teams from the Third Division , FC Cowdenbeath , FC East Stirlingshire and FC Stenhousemuir . The first round winners played in the final round for a place for the following 2009/10 Scottish Second Division season .
