The Scottish Football League Second Division was played in 2004/05 for the 30th time after the introduction of the Premier League as the third highest Scottish league . It was also the thirtieth event as the third highest division of men's football in Scotland under the name Second Division . In the 2004/05 season, 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .

The championship won Brechin City , which at the same time secured participation in the First Division season 2005/06 . In addition to City , the runner-up FC Stranraer also rose. FC Arbroath and Berwick Rangers had to relegate to the Third Division . The top scorer with 20 goals was Paul Shields of Forfar Athletic .
