The Scottish Football League Third Division was held under this name for the 16th time in 2009/10 . It was also the sixteenth edition of the Third Division as only fourth highest Scottish league . In the fourth-highest division of men's football in Scotland , 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 matchdays in the 2009/10 season. Each team played four times against each other. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted before the direct comparison.

The championship was won by Livingston FC , which secured promotion and participation in the 2010/11 Second Division season . On the ascent play-offs took Forfar Athletic , the FC East Stirlingshire and FC Queen's Park part. In the relegation, the Loons from Forfar prevailed and rose next to Livingston. The top scorer with 18 goals was Craig Gunn of Elgin City .
