The tunnel under the BAB 8 is a planned 378 m long railway tunnel on the new Wendlingen – Ulm line . It is located in the planning approval section 2.3 of the new line. The building permit for this section has been in place since November 2008. The shell of the tunnel has been completed (as of 2017).

location

The double-track tunnel is located in the district of Machtolsheim, a district of the municipality of Laichingen, and is located between the route kilometers 53.841 and 54.219 of the new line. It passes under the eponymous A8 .

planning

The tunnel is to have a rectangular profile and be built using an open construction method. The excavated cross-section is 187 square meters. 15 to 17 months are allowed for the shell construction.

Awarding and construction

The section between Merklingen and Hohenstadt, to which the tunnel belongs, was awarded at the beginning of 2015 for around 87 million euros to a consortium of the construction companies Leonhard Weiss (in charge, Göppingen) and Bauer Spezialtiefbau (Schrobenhausen).

Roads are to be relocated in the course of the construction work. Construction began on August 18, 2015.

In August 2015, the Karlsruhe / Stuttgart carriageway on the A8 was relocated for the tunnel. The relocation of the opposite lane is to follow. The relocations are not planned before mid-2017.

Due to the requirement of TSI SRT , according to which two consecutive tunnels are to be regarded as one tunnel if they are less than the maximum train length plus 100 m away (here: distance to the Steinbühl tunnel ), an additional addendum was published in August 2017 Rescue area required for around 510,000 euros.
