The Scottish Football League First Division was held for the 28th time in 2002/03 as only the second highest Scottish league under this name. In the second-highest division of men's football in Scotland , 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 matchdays in the 2002/03 season. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .

The championship was won by FC Falkirk , but due to the lack of a stadium suitable for the first division, the club was denied promotion to the Scottish Premier League . Alloa Athletic and FC Arbroath had to relegate to the Second Division . The top scorer with 20 goals was Owen Coyle from FC Falkirk.
