The Scottish Football League Division Two was played for the 60th time in 1965/66 . After the introduction of Division One , it was also the 60th edition of the men's second-highest football division in the Scottish Football League under the name Division Two . In the 1965/66 season, 19 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted . The championship was won by Ayr United , along with runner-up Airdrieonians FCsecured promotion to Division One. The top scorer with 33 goals was Tommy Murray of Airdrieonians FC.
