The Scottish Championship was 2017/18 for the fifth time as the second highest football -Spielklasse the gentlemen in Scotland played. It was also the 112th edition of a second division football within the Scottish Football League . The league was officially played as the Ladbrokes Scottish Championship . The league followed the first-class Premiership and was above League One and Two as one of the four professional leagues within the Scottish Football League. The season was run by the Scottish Football Association. The season began on August 5, 2017 and ended with the 36th matchday on April 28, 2018.

In the 2017/18 season, ten clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played twice at home and twice against every other team. As a relegated from last year's Premiership , Inverness Caledonian Thistle came into the championship, as a promoted from League One of FC Livingston and Brechin City .

Seven game days before the end of this year's championship season, Brechin City was relegated to the third division after their 2-0 defeat at Greenock Morton . FC St. Mirren secured the title and promotion after a 0-0 draw against Livingston FC on April 14, 2018. Livingston FC , Dundee United and Dunfermline Athletic qualified for the promotion relegation . The FC Dumbarton took part in the relegation relegation . Brechin City was relegated directly to Scottish League One , Dumbarton after losing relegation.

    Relegation

    Participants in the relegation games are the ninth placed from this year's championship, FC Dumbarton and three teams from League One , Raith Rovers , Alloa Athletic and FC Arbroath . The first round winners played in the last round for a place for the following 2018/19 Scottish Championship season .
