The Scottish Football League Division Two was played for the 53rd time in 1958/59 . After the introduction of Division One , it was also the 53rd edition of the men's second-highest football division in the Scottish Football League under the name Division Two . In the 1958/59 season, 19 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted . The championship was won by Ayr United , along with runner-up Arbroath FCsecured promotion to Division One. The top scorer with 45 goals was David Easson from FC Arbroath.
