Division One 1958/59

The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 60th time in 1959/60 . It was also the 63rd edition of the top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 19, 1959 and ended on May 7, 1960. In the 1959/60 season, 18 clubs competed against each other in a total of 34 game days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .

The championship won for the fourth time in the club's Heart of Midlothian history . The Hearts qualified as champions for the following European Cup season-1960/61 . Seventh-placed Hibernian Edinburgh qualified for the Exhibition Cities Cup . As cup winners , the Glasgow Rangers qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup . In this European competition, the Rangers reached the final , where they failed with two defeats (0: 2, 1: 2) against Fiorentina . This made the Gers the first British team to stand in a final of a European competition. Stirling Albion and Arbroath FC were relegated to Division Two . The top scorer was Joe Baker of Hibernian Edinburgh with 42 goals .
