Premier Division 1980/81

The Scottish Football League Premier Division was held for the seventh time in 1981/82 . It was also the 85th edition of a top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. In the 1981/82 season, 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played twice at home and twice against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .

The championship won for the 33rd time in the club's history Celtic Glasgow . Celtic thus qualified as champions for the following European Cup of National Championships 1982/83 . Third and fourth place finishers, Glasgow Rangers and Dundee United qualified for the UEFA Cup . As a cup winner , FC Aberdeen qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup . In this European competition, the Dons from the port city of Aberdeen won the final 2-1 after extra time against Real Madrid .

As the third Scottish club after Celtic ( 1967 ) and the Rangers ( 1972 ), Aberdeen won a European Cup. Partick Thistle and Airdrieonians FC relegated to the First Division at the end of the season . Celtic Glasgow's George McCluskey was the top scorer with 21 goals .
