The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 50th time in 1949/50 . It was also the 53rd edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on September 10, 1949 and ended on May 1, 1950. In the 1949/50 season, 16 clubs competed against each other in a total of 30 match days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship was won by the Glasgow Rangers for the 27th time in their club history . Queen of the South and Stirling Albion were relegated to Division Two at the end of the season . The top scorer was Willie Bauld of Heart of Midlothian with 30 goals .
