The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 36th time in 1928/29 . It was also the 39th edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 11, 1928 and ended on April 27, 1929. In the 1928/29 season, 20 clubs competed against each other in a total of 38 game days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship won for the 17th time in their club history, the Glasgow Rangers . Third Lanark and the Raith Rovers were relegated to Division Two at the end of the season . The top scorer was Evelyn Morrison from FC Falkirk with 43 goals .
